PC Government votes down Matt MacFarlane’s bill to remove provincial tax on used vehicle sales
Charlottetown, PE – Today the majority PC government voted against everyday Islanders and voted down Green Leader Matt MacFarlane’s bill An Act Respecting Used Vehicle Sales. The bill would have removed the provincial tax from used vehicle sales.
“It’s so disappointing that this government voted against a simple, common-sense bill that would help so many Islanders. All it took was political will – something this government is sorely lacking,” said MacFarlane.
During debate on the bill, the Minister of Finance Jill Burridge claimed she had technical concerns with the bill. MacFarlane stressed how disappointed he was that the Minister chose not to work with him to bring a much needed tax break for Islanders, but instead chose to play political games. “This is the Minister of Finance and this is the government of our province,” said MacFarlane. “If they want a law or policy that can benefit Islanders, they can make that happen. Technical difficulties don’t stand in the way”.
“Today the Minister of Finance chose politics over collaboration and, in the end, Islanders lost. I am surprised how easily these PC MLAs could vote against the interests of Islanders who elected them,” said MacFarlane. “It’s a shame this government once again put politics before people.”
The Green Party of PEI will continue to put forward ideas and solutions that benefit everyday Islanders.
