Our Work

Returning to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island
Opposition Green Caucus
May 26, 2020

Today Official Opposition MLAs return to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island to participate in an emergency sitting.

Over the last number of weeks we have heard from Islanders about concerns they have regarding government response and decisions made on their behalf. Our caucus has heard these concerns and have been working diligently on Islanders’ behalf by bringing them to government. We are looking forward to questioning government face to face on their work and to provide the transparency required and wanted by our constituents.

Emergency Measures Act amendments

A part of the concerns we have been hearing centre around the proposed amendments by government to give itself virtually unlimited power to amend legislation during times of emergency without following due process provided by our democratic system.

We have shared our own amendments with government yesterday. These amendments represent our concerns and those shared by Islanders. A copy of our amendments that were shared with government are below:

An Act to Amend the Emergency Measures Act-Official Opposition

We invite the public to participate in the proceedings of the emergency sitting of the Legislative Assembly by watching online at www.assembly.pe.ca or via the Legislative Assembly’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/peileg/. Proceedings start at 2 pm, May 26, 2020.

The Opposition Green Caucus of Prince Edward Island provides a crucial role in the governing of our province. The caucus is made up of Green Party MLAs elected by Islanders.

We strive to offer informed and intelligent debate and proposals that are evidence-based and data-informed. Through respect and integrity, we seek to improve the work and efforts of government on behalf of all Islanders.
