During this Mental Health Week, many have been considering and questioning how we can better serve Islanders experiencing mental health concerns. The sudden closure of Unit 9 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital has had a detrimental impact on the health and recovery of many Islanders in need of psychiatric treatment.
Several times Trish Altass, Official Opposition Critic for Health and Wellness, has asked James Aylward, Minister of Health and Wellness, to explain the rationale for this closure, and the plan for having acute psychiatric services restored. She has not yet received a response. We know prior to COVID-19, Unit 9 lost two psychiatrists.
Question to the Minister of Health and Wellness: When will Unit 9 be open and fully functional again?
